history: Growing up in Heatherfield is difficult to describe, but basically ideal for any child with imagination. When it became apparent that Key got her parents magic traits, everything got better. Her sister Gilly was a seer and a bit of a show-off, but Key preferred to follow in her family's footsteps – it made her feel as though she belonged. Watching her mother brew potions and teas was one of her favorite pastimes growing up. Gilly tortured Key though, all their lives, constantly giving her cryptic message about her futures (sometimes true, sometimes not) so that Key had no idea what advice to follow. It was a nightmare, though Key still loved her sister. Their father died when Key was twelve. It was hard-going, but Hyssop women are nothing if not tough. After a while it got easier.

Once Gilly moved out-of-town to Portland, Key found herself opening up more. Rid of insecurities about her future, Key learned to let go. She partied some as a teenager, but mostly she just acquired a bunch of friends. Easy-going, clever, sweet, and funny, Key was a person people liked being around. Even though she loved family and home, Key went off to college. She was having too much fun being young and around lots of people her own age. Just about to graduate however, Key got a call that her mother died in a car accident in the next town over. Key came back home immediately. She was expecting that she and Gilly would take care of each other and their parents shop, but Gilly freaked and ran away to LA, where her seer magic is very popular. Key's running everything pretty well, all things considered, but obviously beneath the surface things are much more troubled than they seem.
